Thanks to the competition from Sega, Nintendo improved themselves and gamers won in the end. That’s why I have created a list of the top 50 all-time Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) games that you must play. I consider Genesis to be one of the most important consoles ever. The battle between Sega’s Genesis and Nintendo’s SNES gave birth to the original console wars. You were different and weren’t scared of trying out edgier, more mature games. Owning a Sega Genesis in the late 80s and early 90s meant you were one of the “cool” kids. In August of 1989, they came up with the Sega Genesis- the first true 16-bit video game console. Instead, Sega would create an entirely new generation of video game consoles. But it was too late, as Nintendo had already captured the North American market with their massive catalog of established games.Īnd that’s when Sega decided there was no point trying to compete with Nintendo at their own game. Sega released their answer to the NES in the form of an 8-bit console called the Sega Master System. However, there was a rival trying to compete against Nintendo’s ever-increasing market share. I remember as a kid, blowing on the cartridge to get it working and then getting stuck into the frenetic boss fights while listening to that, now iconic, soundtrack. There are so many awesome games in this collection but my personal favourite is Streets of Rage II. You’ll probably need to make use of the save states to complete all these, as they allow to record your progress anywhere. One of those will relate to the all-new mirror modes we’re including, meaning you’ll be able to play all the titles with the screen flipped horizontally for an additional challenge. We’ll have a big ol’ list of Trophies for you to earn while playing, with some seriously challenging ones for players pushing for Platinum. We’ve included graphic enhancement filters to make sure the old games still look great on your spangly, new-aged televisions along with an interactive 3D room UI, which means it’s super-easy to navigate your way to games in the collection from the virtual comfort of a 90s themed gamer’s bedroom! You’ll be able to play the multiplayer titles like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, either on the couch with a friend, or online with anyone in the world. #SEGA GAMES ALL IN ONE OFFLINE#Online or offline multiplayer and enhancement filters One of the elements we’re most excited about with this announcement though, are the updates to the emulation feature set.
